Other support with home learning

If you need specific help and support with home learning you should contact your child's school directly.

The Outreach Inclusion Service can also offer support to children who are more vulnerable (e.g. those with challenging behaviour and/or a poor attendance record), but who do not have a social worker or an education, health and care plan.

This service has counsellors and therapists who can offer sessions with children or parents and carers to help them cope better while at home.

Online resources to help with home learning

There are lots of online resources available to keep your child busy and learning during this time.  Here are some ideas:

Visit the BBC Bitesize website for daily lessons, videos and activities.

The BBC also have a range of programmes on iplayer to support learners, teachers and parents during lockdown.

Oak National Academy is a website with thousands of free, high quality video lessons and resources from Early Years to KS4.

Visit the ClickView website for free online learning resources.

The Department for Education has brought together a list of free online educational resources to help children of all ages learn at home as well as specific resources for adults looking after primary school children and secondary school children during Covid-19.

Help accessing the internet

Parents, carers and pupils cannot apply for laptops, tablets or internet access.  You should contact your school for help accessing remote education.

Mobile data packages are available for families who need it.  Read more about getting help with technology.

It is also possible to use a PlayStation or Xbox to access popular online learning platforms such as Microsoft Teams.

Digital Online Support for Parents

It’s not easy being a parent in the digital age - keeping up with children’s online lives, knowing how to talk to them about what they’re doing, and staying informed to ensure they can make the most of online opportunities whilst avoiding the potential pitfalls and risks.

Parent Zone Local is here to help. Delivered by Parent Zone National, an organisation at the heart of digital family life, in partnership with Lewisham, Southwark, Croydon and Lambeth councils, Parent Zone Local is a free support service for parents in your area. It offers high quality advice, activities, information and tools to help families thrive in their digital world.

And it’s designed to be tailored to the needs of local families – and the things that worry them most. Whatever they need around the online world, they - and the professionals they work with - can find at Parent Zone Local.

The service offers a series of weekly parent sessions delivered by the Parent Zone Local Guide, Sophie. These events cover all the issues we know are of interest to parents, such as:

·     Digital wellbeing and screen time

·     Responding to online risks, extremism and misinformation

·     Helping your child stay safer online

·     Social media

·     Online gaming

·     Being Internet Brave - helping your child talk about their online world

But we don't just deliver sessions for parents. Parent Zone Local is also running workshops for local professionals who work with families. These sessions, delivered virtually, introduce professionals to the Parent Zone Local service and how they can direct the families they work with towards the best resources and support for them.
